Q: What can I study?

You can register for either a Diploma or Certificate in the qualification of your choice.
Alternatively you can register for a single module.

Q: How can I study?

You can study on Campus or through our Distance Education Programme.

Q: What is the workload?

For a single module through on campus study you attend a weekly 3-hour class and we recommend a minimum of three hours study per week. For Distance Education we would recommend 5 - 6 hours per module per week.

Q: Can I study one module on campus and one through the Distance Education Programme?

Yes, you select your preferred study mode for each module.

Q: When are campus class times?

Morning: 09h30 -12h30 (Mon-Fri); Afternoon: 13h00 -16h00 (Mon-Fri)

Evening: 18h00 -21h00 (Mon-Thurs)

Q: What is the current module timetable?

Q: How is Distance Education structured?

Distance Education materials are divided into 12 sections corresponding to the 12 weeks of each semester.

Q: What support is given to Distance Education students?

The college has a dedicated support person who provides assistance and support to Distance Education Students.

Q: Are there exams?

The modules are not exam based. SACAP values experiential learning and uses assessments to determine if outcomes have been achieved. Assessments combine both theory and practice and can take the form of interviews, videotaped role-plays, self-critique, essays, journals, research/project work and class presentations.

Q: How does fieldwork work?

Fieldwork can be undertaken after completing a set amount of modules. Utilising the Fieldwork Co -ordinator and our existing database you will identify the organisation you wish to work with and establish a placement to be undertaken on mutually agreed terms.

Q: Does SACAP Recognise Prior Learning?

Yes, a policy exists regarding Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who believe they may already have developed competencies for some of the listed modules either through previous experience or study. For more information, contact our Student Advisor.

Q: Can I start whenever I want to?

You need to commence at the beginning of one of our semesters.

Q: What are the semester times?

Semester 1: 4 February - 5 May 2008

Semester 2: 12 May - 18 August 2008 (includes a two week mid-term break).

Semester 3: 8 September - 5 December 2008

Q: Do I have to enroll in a full qualification?

You are welcome to commence with as many or as few modules as you wish. If you then want to continue you can upgrade to a full qualification.

Q: Can I change my mode of study at any time?

You can choose your mode of study at the beginning of each semester for each module.

Q: Are the qualifications recognised?

Yes, in 2005 SACAP was provisionally registered with the Department of Education (DOE) as a Private Higher Education Institution (Reg No: 05HB01). In 2004 The Council of Higher Education Institution (CHE) recommended provisional accreditation for the delivery of the Counselling Qualifications. The College made submission in 2006 to the Council of Higher Education (CHE) for accreditation of the Coaching qualifications.

Q: What is the cost?

SACAP prices its qualifications per module. You select and pay for your selection of modules per semester.

Q: How can I pay?

All modules selected for the semester are paid for upon registration. We do however have a flexible payment plan designed to assist students with specific needs.

Q: When and how do I enroll at the College?

It is strongly recommended that you register well in advance of each semester given that placement in class is not always guaranteed. Complete a registration form and return this to the college with payment.
