Dr. Gordon Isaacs
M.Soc.Sci. (Social Work), University of the Witwatersrand. Masters (cum laude) and PhD from the University of Cape Town.
Gordon’s professional career in counselling spans over 40 years in the field of Clinical Social Work. Shortly after graduating, he opened the first Crisis Clinic in Johannesburg, where he worked as Head of Therapeutic Services, as well as consultant for many addiction centres in South Africa (including, Stepping Stones, Harmony Clinic, Kenilworth Clinic, SANCA and Phoenix House). Gordon was also Professor and Head of the Social Work Department at UCT for many years where he pioneered one of the first psychology courses in the field of human sexuality at University level. Gordon has also completed research in the field of men who have sex with men, and sex work, in particular.
Gordon is published in the fields of human sexuality and HIV, crisis intervention, rape and has co-authored a textbook on homosexual identity, culture and crisis.
Gordon is the psycho-social coordinator of Sweat’s outreach and development programme in Cape Town and provides training, supervision and support to staff and service users.
