Svea van der Hoorn
Svea is an adult learning specialist, with a particular interest in activity-based learning, and transforming experience into learning via reflection. She offers an ICF-Accredited Coach Training Programme, offers mentor coaching for ICF credentialing purposes, and coaching supervision. She is the leader of the ICF South Africa Western Cape Sub-Chapter, and deputy for the National Education Portfolio.
With more than 30 years of a variety of work experience, in a variety of contexts, and under some pretty dire circumstances, Svea’s mission and commitment are to partnering with people in restoring clarity, co-ordinating purposeful change efforts, and creating homes for solutions that are tailored to their circumstances. Svea’s qualifications include psychology, counselling and psychotherapy, and coaching. She has worked as a programme director and senior lecturer at UCT’s School of Education and The Graduate School of Business. She quietly contributes to transformation in South Africa through programme and project work, and by taking up employment offers, for example, a senior leadership position with the CCMA during its establishment years. Svea leads from alongside or one step behind the people she works with, creating contexts for them to experience and grow their resourcefulness and expertise.
