Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Psychology (BPsych Equivalent Programme)

- You want to register with the HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor after your honours.
- You’re eager to start practicing right away in prevention and primary intervention counselling.
- You want hands-on training in short-term counselling, assessment, and psychoeducation.
- You’re driven by community mental health and social transformation.
- Want a professional qualification
What this path gives you:
- You may register with the HPCSA as a counsellor post successful completion and passing the HPCSA boards exam.
- Professional training on an honours level.
- The ability to provide psychological services under the Registered Counsellor scope of practice.
- A pathway to master’s degrees in psychology.

Bachelor of Applied Social Science Honours in Psychology
This programme has been specifically designed with SACAP’s unique emphasis on deepening knowledge, critical and analytical insight and developing competencies in psychology and the social sciences. The degree offers advanced levels of academic challenge, builds intellectual independence and research capacity at a postgraduate level of study.

- Duration: 1-year full time On Campus | Part-time Online only (4 Academic Terms)

Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Psychology [BPsych Equivalent Programme]
This honours-equivalent programme is an 18-month course that ensures that all the requirements of an honours degree in psychology are met and that the core competencies for the Scope of Practice of a Registered Counsellor are built in. This means that successful graduates can apply for professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Counsellor.
- Available: Full-time on campus (Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria)
- Duration: 18-months
- Accreditation: NQF8, CHE accredited, HPCSA
