LISTEN: Patricia Ntuli spoke to Rahim Thawer, SACAP’s International Visiting Scholar, about the harm reduction counselling.

Rahim Thawer works as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, facilitator and public speaker, sessional lecturer, writer, and community organizer. He is currently hosting The Practice Dialogue Workshop series with SACAP’s Social Work and Community Development Faculty until May 2022.

On SAFM‘s Late Night Conversations show, Patricia Ntuli explores why this approach is becoming more popular when treating substance abuse. Rahim explains what harm reduction is and shares practical examples of being respectful and inclusive when approaching behaviours that can be considered high risk.

If you’re interested in helping people deal with addiction, including severe forms of substance abuse, you should consider studying a counselling course at SACAP, where you can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to be an addictions counsellor. For more information, enquire now.

RSVP here to join the upcoming webinars in The Practice Dialogue Workshop Series with Rahim where he will touch on Shame & Sexuality from a queer therapist’s perspective as well as how mental health professionals can support clients or family members when someone ‘comes out”.
