SACAP’s Coaching in the Workplace online short course has been a high point for Ronnie Muhl, who enrolled for his own personal development.
Given the choice between entrepreneur, adventurer and professional speaker, which would you choose to be? Lucky for Ronnie Muhl, 64, he’s all three!
Ronnie lives in Simon’s Town, Cape Town where he runs a number of businesses. His key role? “Creating opportunities and everything that helps to make that happen,” he says. “Developing relationships is what I love most.” This philosophy extends to Ronnie’s other great passion: climbing mountains. His ‘trek’ record is admirable. Ronnie has scaled seven of the world’s giants including Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Denali, Elbrus and Kosciusko. He put together the original South African mission to Broad Peak in Pakistan and was leader of the first South African expedition to summit Mount Everest via the North-east Ridge. Phew! Beyond physical fitness these feats require mental strength and an enormous amount of will power, which is something Ronnie attributes to his success. “Perseverance, determination, hard work and the willingness to learn, unlearn and re-learn.”
Harnessing potential
Ronnie says he has always had an interest in psychology and chose to enrol in SACAP’s Coaching in the Workplace online short course for his own personal development. “The course was very empowering,” he notes. “Cutting-edge content, awesome facilitation and the use of Zoom (video conferencing) as a tool,” were some of the programme’s most attractive elements, he says. “It was extremely thought provoking, too!”
Ronnie has been able to knit what he’s learnt on the course into his daily dealings and is reaping the rewards. “It has enhanced my own personal growth and development, and made me more mindful of my interactions with my staff and with other people in the workplace,” he explains. Managers, business owners, entrepreneurs, – even adventurers – could benefit from completing a course like this, he says. “Because it will make them better at what they do.”
Aiming high
As a founding member of the Professional Speakers Association of South Africa and an affiliate of the Global Speakers Federation, Ronnie enthrals audiences locally and abroad with his passion for peaks, inspiring them to live a more fulfilled life. By sharing his adventures he hopes people will be encouraged to realize their true and fullest potential so that they can achieve their dreams and change their lives. “We should never stop learning, growing or discovering,” he says. “We should take pride in ourselves and the progress that we have made, but never become so content that we cannot find room for improvement.”
Perhaps this is where the value of SACAP’s Coaching in the Workplace online short course is most pronounced. By extending ourselves and improving where and what we can enables us to see our unique potential. SACAP celebrates this and believes coaching to be one the most effective vehicles for getting the most out of who we are and what we do in the world.
