SACAP REC Registration
Section 72 of the National Health Act 61 of 2003 mandates that all health-related research in South Africa must obtain ethical approval from a research ethics committee registered with the National Health Research Ethics Council (NHREC), before initiating any health-related research involving human participants. This ensures that research activities adhere to established ethical guidelines and safeguard the rights, safety, and well-being of research participants. The SACAP REC is accredited with the National Health Research Ethics Council, effective October 24, 2023, to November 30, 2027. This accreditation signifies the SACAP REC‘s dedication to rigorous ethical oversight and adherence to legal and regulatory standards. As part of the routine protocol, the NHREC will conduct a site visit in 2027, ensuring ongoing compliance and reinforcing the SACAP REC‘s pivotal role in safeguarding ethical integrity. The SACAP REC‘s registration with the NHREC reflects its dedication to upholding research ethics and integrity within health-related research. Through its commitment to rigorous ethical standards, the SACAP REC actively influences the trajectory of health-related research, driving forward scientific knowledge while prioritising the welfare of individuals and communities throughout South Africa.
