Know anyone who’s been offered a recording deal with legendary music label Sony Records at the tender age of 18? We do!
Meet Bianca Fagri, a 25-year-old inspiration from Johannesburg who is wise beyond her years. What’s more, music is just one glittering arrow in her remarkable quiver of gifts.
Bianca is in her third year of studying online at SACAP. Curious to find out how she rates her SACAP experience, we caught up with her and asked her. Here’s what she has to say…
Stellar student
“I’m currently in the second year of my Bachelor of Applied Social Science – with 20 distinctions to date!” she exclaims. Previously, Bianca completed her Higher Certificate in Counselling and Communication Skills and graduated with more than just her certificate.
“I was presented with the Academic Deans Merit Award,” she proudly tells us. “I achieved the highest grades across all SACAP campuses for the qualification.”
Bright beginnings
“Ever since the day I could talk, I wanted to be a famous singer and actress,” Bianca says when we quiz her about her childhood dreams. “Growing up I worked incredibly hard. I achieved a degree in speech and drama, recorded an album and was offered a deal with Sony Records in Los Angeles.”
“However, I realised that the industry was not quite what I’d imagined,” she recalls. “I wanted to inspire people with my music and unfortunately the label wanted something completely different.”
The upshot? “I turned down the offer and began the search for my next adventure,” she says.
Budding roots
Fast forward to 2022 and Bianca feels she is exactly where she needs to be. “Reflecting back on all the jobs and careers I’ve ventured into over the course of my life, I realize that I’ve always just wanted to help people.”
Her dream job now? Bianca says she has a vision of revolutionizing education. “I want to open up the realm of emotional intelligence because I believe there is so much more to it than meets the eye.”
“I think I have the key to unlocking this vastness,” she adds, “I dream about being documented in history alongside the psychology greats, changing the way intelligence is understood and measured.”
Alluring aspects
“I chose to enrol at SACAP because it was the top-rated institution for psychology in all my research,” Bianca explains. “It also seemed to have the best online programme.”
From the start, she was impressed by SACAP’s supportive energy. An attractive attribute the college has sustained throughout her studies, Bianca maintains.
“Life can get busy and hard sometimes. It always makes me feel better knowing that I have the support of SACAP, my educators and my peers to see me through difficulties. I am so grateful and honoured to be part of the SACAP family.”
Favourite favourites
As for her current Bachelor of Applied Social Science course, “I absolutely love it!” Bianca asserts. Three aspects about the programme she enjoys most? “I love the structure of the modules and how they intertwine with each other. This really helps broaden the scope of knowledge when writing assessments.”
“I love the interaction between peers and educators; it takes the distance out of online learning,” she continues.
“Thirdly, I love the way the terms are structured. It allows for clear organisation and downtime, and makes the year fly by because we focus on 10 weeks at a time.”
“What’s more,” Bianca adds, “the varying points of view and insight that I gain through each week’s forum discussions are hugely enlightening. Exactly what one needs when studying the complex subject of psychology.”
Ode to online
Bianca is a big fan of learning online through SACAP, she says. “It allows me to hold down a job, pay for my studies and run a household.”
“I am very good at managing my time and enjoy my own space and routine. It’s a style of studying that’s an absolute win for me. I rate it 11 out of 10!” she insists.
Hip hip for SACAP
“I would highly recommend studying psychology at SACAP!” Bianca stresses. The support and immediate response you receive at SACAP is unlike any other.”
“Furthermore, term structure, lessons, course work and the institution as a whole work well with different lifestyles and personalities,” Bianca says.
“When I was struggling financially, SACAP awarded me a bursary, which halved my school expenses,” she continues. “When I was struggling emotionally, SACAP put me in touch with one of their registered counsellors.”
“SACAP has opened various other doors for me, too. Assisting me find a job within the neuropsychology space, for example. SACAP also helped with my acceptance into the Psychological Society of South Africa mentorship programme. I was the only SACAP student and one of 30 individuals within Africa to be chosen,” she notes.
Great expectations
The motivation behind Bianca’s achievements? “My hunger to succeed and reach my dreams. My desire to help others, and the will to be financially stable enough to sustain my family.”
Her plans for the future? “Five years from now I hope to be running my own practice. I’d also like to be working towards my Masters in psychology and experimenting within the space of emotional intelligence,” she says.
Power of purpose
Undoubtedly Bianca’s positive can-do attitude is the foundation to her burgeoning success. With will power, hard work and determination you too can achieve the career of your dreams.
