Speakers

Bongane Mzinyane

Bongane Mzinyane, a UKZN Social Work lecturer, has a research focus and community engagement initiatives on the intersection of social work, climate change discourse, and decolonisation. This is evidenced by eight peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. He brings a combination of 12 years of work experience from government (2 departments) and academic roles. He recently submitted his PhD thesis for examination. Bongane is supervising 6 master’s students, with three master’s students having graduated under his stewardship in the past 3 years.

Anivuyina Bebeza

Programme Coordinator at the Faculty of Social Work and Community Development, Cape Town Campus. 

Anivuyina Bebeza holds a degree in Bachelor of Social Work. She has a background as an academic officer, psychosocial practitioner, social worker, and child therapist. Currently pursuing her master’s degree in Development Studies at the University of the Western Cape, focused on community development and community participation. She is passionate about consolidating the professional journeys of future change agents, to foster healthy societies.  

She has shared her insights as a speaker at notable events, including the 2024 Child and Trauma Conference, where she presented on “When Tradition and Justice Collide,” and a symposium on Preventing Gender-Based Violence in Southern Africa at the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria.
